Matchday - Sat 21st April - AWAY

Winchester Knights Vs ORFC 2XV - Solent 2

When my daughter said to me yesterday that there is a good chance of thunderstorms today I have to admit I was slightly relieved. Maybe the temperature will drop a bit and we'll have some rain to cool us down. Surely it's too hot for rugby ?

No such luck - Os 2s travel to Winchester for a 3pm KO in what looks to be another day of beautiful sunshine (ok, with a chance of rain). It is a tad late to still be playing, currently looking to play our final game next week at Fareham Heathens. At least we have the experience of thumping Stoneham in the heat last weekend to prepare us.

Today we take on a side that has had equal success this season. Overton Vs Winch is always a good game played in good spirits and today will be no different. In the hot sunshine it may well come down to who has the fitness to go to the end.

Good luck Os

Double Header at HOME

KO: 1500hrs

Double headers have been rare this season and this affords the senior squad a chance to bring the season to a close (almost) with a bang.

Os 1s host Bognor in their last fixture in Hants 1 for the season (very possible they will be here again next season after the leagues restructure). Bognor sit 2nd, Os 2nd from bottom. This is no doubt a big ask for Os but on their own turf you never know and we do know that they can be a good side when they get it right. They will probably have to play their best game of the season to win though.

On the other pitch Os 2s host Stoneham. It has been a long while since these two sides met and this should be a good contest, both sides close in the league table (we should note the Inglorious succumbed to Petersfield in their first loss since Christmas away last week but only because they had 12 men versus 15). With key players returning, the 2s should be confident. They then still have 1 or 2 more games left to play.

The sun is threatening to come out and the bar will be open.

Good luck Os

Matchday - Sat 7th April - AWAY

1s head to Ventnor on the Isle of Wight for another tough game into what has been the toughest of seasons for them. The key for the team today is to enjoy themselves and continue to bond ready for next season.

2s head to Petersfield. With only a couple of games left the Inglorious have not lost since Christmas. When the league table is updated Os will be sitting top or close to it. Today will be a big ask though, especially with key players missing.

KO: 1500hrs

Good luck Os

Matchday - Sat 24th March 2018 - HOME Double Header

ORFC 1XV Vs Fareham Heathens 1XV - Hants Div 1

ORFC 2XV Vs Portsmouth 3XV - Solent Div 2

KO: 1500Hrs

Heathens have struggled of late, though not as much as Os; today is an opportunity for Os to take some points in this league towards the end of what has been a tough campaign for them. And they will look to do so in front of a good crowd full of good food from the President's Lunch.

When the Solent 2 table is updated it should show Os 2s Inglorious sitting top or close to it, following their thumping of local rivals Andover 12-50 at their ground a couple of weeks ago.

Today will be different. With key players missing Os face a Portsmouth side that will be chomping at the bit after their substantial home defeat to Stoneham last time out.

Weather looks to stay mild, if a little wet.

Good luck Os from all at the Club.

ORFC mixed XV 34 Vs Basingstoke mixed XV 22

In a cold wet muddy battle of a contest, Os overcame a good Basingstoke side. This was a game played in good spirits, both sides creating opportunities despite awful conditions.

Something really shone through this win and it would be wrong not to highlight it. Basingstoke were out early, warming up and going through their drills.

AT 1.15pm Os were struggling with numbers, still shy of 15. As KO arrived at 1.30 they had 15 players on the park, but a 15 that had never played together before, that had not even had a chance to run drills or lineouts. Their performance epitomised the spirit of Overton Rugby Club. They worked hard and played for each other to take this win.

This Club is completely aligned with the Teamwork Respect Enjoyment Discipline Sportsmanship values of rugby. We are proud this oozes through our culture and this performance typified it.

We always welcome new players - all you need shorts and boots.

Hanpshire U20 Vs Dorset & Wilts U20
- Jason Leonard County Championships - Division 1 Pool 4

Once again we welcome Hants U20 to the Club for a 1430 KO.

Hants U20 have had some real success here at one of their adopted homes in recent years and we are proud to once again have them. Today they kick off their campaign in Round 1 of this competition.

The weather is set fair with a chance of showers and the bar is open - this should be a good game for rugby lovers.

Good luck Hants from all at the Club

Matchday - Sat 10th Feb 2018 - HOME

Today presents a mouth watering clash of rugby, and then England welcome Wales later in a 1645 KO.

Ireland also welcome Italy at 1415hrs but this result is seen as a forgone conclusion in many quarters...the whole non green rugby world will be hoping Italy can upset the apple cart..indeed at 80-1 they may be worth a punt.

With both ORFC teams having a rest from league fixtures, a mixed Os side instead welcomes old friends (and enemies) Basingstoke to Laverstoke Park Rugby Ground in an exhibition match of grass roots rugby, in an early 1330 KO.

There is no doubt Basingstoke are struggling as a Club, with their first and second XVs both propping up their respective tables. Indeed, their 2XV have struggled with numbers and only managed two fixtures this term in Solent 1. Only their 3XV have had some success, sitting mid table in Solent 4.

Os 1XV are fighting a relegation battle in Hants 1, a league below Basingstoke 1XV and if Os do manage to stay up there is a real chance they could be in the same league as Basingstoke next season. Os 2s are going well, 3 from 3 so far in the post Christmas re-worked Solent 2 league and off the back of a cracking to nil win at home to Millbrook last week.

But current form will be irrelevant today and both sides are shorn of regular players for one reason or another. It is always a good hard battle of rugby when any mix of Os Vs Basingtsoke come together and should make for good viewing before the main event later in the afternoon.

Wales beat a very poor Scotland in Cardiff last week, themselves undone by their own poor discipline in almost all areas of the game. England returned from Rome as expected. Today will be very different for both sides but it is difficult for this author, biased perhaps, to see passed England taking the spoils.

With a good chance of rain at our high altitude countryside Club, it is likely to be wet and muddy, however the bar will be open. Come and support the boys in a 1330 KO.

Good luck Os.
