ORFC mixed XV 34 Vs Basingstoke mixed XV 22

In a cold wet muddy battle of a contest, Os overcame a good Basingstoke side. This was a game played in good spirits, both sides creating opportunities despite awful conditions.

Something really shone through this win and it would be wrong not to highlight it. Basingstoke were out early, warming up and going through their drills.

AT 1.15pm Os were struggling with numbers, still shy of 15. As KO arrived at 1.30 they had 15 players on the park, but a 15 that had never played together before, that had not even had a chance to run drills or lineouts. Their performance epitomised the spirit of Overton Rugby Club. They worked hard and played for each other to take this win.

This Club is completely aligned with the Teamwork Respect Enjoyment Discipline Sportsmanship values of rugby. We are proud this oozes through our culture and this performance typified it.

We always welcome new players - all you need shorts and boots.

Hanpshire U20 Vs Dorset & Wilts U20
- Jason Leonard County Championships - Division 1 Pool 4

Once again we welcome Hants U20 to the Club for a 1430 KO.

Hants U20 have had some real success here at one of their adopted homes in recent years and we are proud to once again have them. Today they kick off their campaign in Round 1 of this competition.

The weather is set fair with a chance of showers and the bar is open - this should be a good game for rugby lovers.

Good luck Hants from all at the Club

Matchday - Sat 10th Feb 2018 - HOME

Today presents a mouth watering clash of rugby, and then England welcome Wales later in a 1645 KO.

Ireland also welcome Italy at 1415hrs but this result is seen as a forgone conclusion in many quarters...the whole non green rugby world will be hoping Italy can upset the apple cart..indeed at 80-1 they may be worth a punt.

With both ORFC teams having a rest from league fixtures, a mixed Os side instead welcomes old friends (and enemies) Basingstoke to Laverstoke Park Rugby Ground in an exhibition match of grass roots rugby, in an early 1330 KO.

There is no doubt Basingstoke are struggling as a Club, with their first and second XVs both propping up their respective tables. Indeed, their 2XV have struggled with numbers and only managed two fixtures this term in Solent 1. Only their 3XV have had some success, sitting mid table in Solent 4.

Os 1XV are fighting a relegation battle in Hants 1, a league below Basingstoke 1XV and if Os do manage to stay up there is a real chance they could be in the same league as Basingstoke next season. Os 2s are going well, 3 from 3 so far in the post Christmas re-worked Solent 2 league and off the back of a cracking to nil win at home to Millbrook last week.

But current form will be irrelevant today and both sides are shorn of regular players for one reason or another. It is always a good hard battle of rugby when any mix of Os Vs Basingtsoke come together and should make for good viewing before the main event later in the afternoon.

Wales beat a very poor Scotland in Cardiff last week, themselves undone by their own poor discipline in almost all areas of the game. England returned from Rome as expected. Today will be very different for both sides but it is difficult for this author, biased perhaps, to see passed England taking the spoils.

With a good chance of rain at our high altitude countryside Club, it is likely to be wet and muddy, however the bar will be open. Come and support the boys in a 1330 KO.

Good luck Os.

ORFC 1XV Vs Sandown and Shanklin RFC - Hants 1

KO:1400hrs

Os continue their relegation fight against 4th placed visitors from the IoW. This is a big ask for the 1s - they will need to get out of the blocks early against a side that will have the dreaded journey in them.

ORFC 2XV Vs Millbrook 2XV - Solent 2

KO: 1430hrs

The loss for Os to Locksheath last week by 2 points to a team 3 leagues above them could so easily have been a win. It was a good indication of where they could get to. The Inglorious are going well and have the talent and potential to take this league when they face opposition of their own standard.

Good lucks Os from all the Club

If you want to see other rugby today, sub standard compared to the real grass roots stuff at Laverstoke Park Rugby Ground, we will also be showing Wales V Scotland and France V Ireland.

Millbrook 1XV Vs ORFC 1XV - Hants 1

ORFC 2XV Vs Havant 'A' XV - Solent 2

Os 1s hit the road again today in what is widely predicted to be another tough battle in their quest to stay up. The hosts have been going well and sit 3rd. Notoriously a difficult place to go but Os should not lose sight of the fact that when they get it right, they are very good. They just need to front up, play with aggression, look after the ball and who knows what can happen...

1st Team Squad

12.30 meet for 2pm Kick Off

Elliott Buttle
Adam Kentell
Ashley Pearless
Rich Mackley

Os 2s have it no easier, even with the switch from away to home. Both sides are of similar stature and this will be a real ding dong, old school rugby as we like it. If the Inglorious can put 15 on the pitch then they will give Havant a good contest.

Bar is OPEN

Come and support the boys, either in Southampton or at Millbrook.

Good luck Os from all at the Club

KO: 1400hrs

Inglorious host Totts Vets, a new addition to the Solent 2 League, after the home side's away beating of Alresford 2s last week.

Last week Totts beat Stoneham and this will be a tough game for Os 2s. That said, their recovery to come from 21-5 down last week to win 28-32, will give them confidence and shows their belief, especially now some key players are starting to return from injury.

Os 1s have a rest today.

Good lucks Os.
